Our Day Today!
Today in writing we started tackling the world of contractions! We learned how words like do not, will not, and have not become the words don't, won't, and haven't. We created a list of some of the contractions that we are already familiar with and then learned more with a fun Brain Pop Jr. video. We worked together to play a fun smart board game that involved sorting different contractions.
To tie our ELAR Lessons in with our Inquiry Unit, we are learning about the reason why an author writes. There are 3 reasons: To entertain, To inform, and To persuade. Today our focus was on Persuading. This ties in directly with our Inquiry Unit of Bunny Town because this week the learners are in charge of nominating a Bunny Candidate to be elected as the Bunny Boss, which involves persuading others to cote for them after reading their Slogans and receiving campaign gifts. Today we worked on coming up with ideas that "Get People's Attention."
We are reviewing the different strategies that are used when working Word Problems that involve Subtraction. In our Linus the Minus workbooks, we are learning how to use 4 different strategies to solve these problems:
- Number Lines
- Ten Frames
- Drawing Pictures
- Backwards Counting
