Our Day Today!
We have been so fortunate this week! Mrs. Hope, a 5th Grade Teacher has been coming into our classroom to teach us Expository Writing. Yesterday the learners practiced creating a "Possibility Map" about what their favorite Thanksgiving foods are. Today the learners took a topic from that map and put it into a "Multi-Flow Map" in order to explain why they like that certain food! I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us tomorrow!
We are working on the 5 W's while reading. Today we read, The Little Scarecrow Boy and practiced naming the Who, What, When, Where and Why of the story. This is a wonderful technique to use when reading at home, to practice Comprehension!
In Science today, we experimented with ramps and marbles. We came up with a hypothesis about whether we thought a marble would roll down a tall ramp or a short ramp faster. After deciding what we thought would happen, we completed the experiment and investigated what the marble did on the two ramps.
We had our first official day of Math Stations today, and it went really well! There are four stations and four math groups. This is a daily rotation that the learners will be participating in. Each day they go to a different stations. The stations are "Math By Myself," "Math with a Partner," :Math on the Computer," and "Math with the Teacher."
In each station, learners were working with subtraction:
R-Time: Do you want to pop the bubble?
The purpose of this lesson was to show the learners that having self control is important and that we all need to practice having control over our own bodies.
