APEX FUN RUN IS TOMORROW!!!Our class got to see Dynamite Dez get pied in the face today!!! Tomorrow is the race, so please wear your running attire to school! Our Day Today!R-Time Today we talked about how to be Knowledgeable! We spent some time watching a clip from the Ellen Show, when she interviewed 4 kid inventors. After seeing the neat inventions that these kids created (snow-shovel boots, back scrubber, bathtub book holder, and fan skateboard) we did a "Think, Pair, Share" with a partner to discuss how these kids were knowledgeable! Math
We discussed how to save our money that we earn, and how to earn money to add to our savings. We read the book Alexander Who Used To Be Rich Last Sunday. After reading the book, we spent some time brainstorming about what we would want to buy if we saved up all our own money! As a class, we helped to create all of my wants that I will save money for. Then we talked about the different ways that we could earn money to buy those things! Our Day Today!Writer's Workshop We are doing yet another Expository Writing! We should be pros by the end of the year! This week our prompt is "If I were a historical figure, I would be known for..." Pinkerton Open House Night is next week, and 1st Grade will be doing a really neat project that goes along with this writing! You will have to come to Open House to see what it is! Open House is Thursday, March 6th. Inquiry Unit: Where We Are In Place and Time We have started our research projects! The learners are working hard to use different Non-Fiction books and PebbleGo to research their own Historical Figures. The presentations will be made next week! Math We are working on money this week and next week. This week we are going over the different coins and discussing everything we know about each coin. Today we started a neat writing process that will teach the learners why we need money, why it is important to learn to count it, and what we can save money for. Superhero of the Week: Saanvi!!Saanvi is a Superhero because she helps her mom and dad clean! When she grows up, she wants to be a teacher! She loves reading and writing, and her favorite book it Junie B. Jones. Saanvi is happiest when she is playing at her friend Addison's house! Saanvi is a hard worker and that makes her proud! Thank you Saanvi!! APEX FUN RUN!!!Our Day Today!Writer's Workshop We practiced writing detailed sentences today! By taking a simple sentence like "Jane went swimming," and answering the 3 "W" questions, we were able to come up with a much longer and detailed sentence. The "W" questions are "Where, when, and why?" Inquiry Time: Where We Are In Place and Time We are preparing for research projects that will begin next week. Today we created Multi-Flow Maps of the Historical Figures that we have been talking about in the classroom. We are also adding important dates for their actions and discoveries to our timeline. One of our learners decided to take it upon her self to research Alexander Graham Bell at home! Maya put together a really neat presentation and read it aloud for the camera! Click the link below to see her hard work!
APEX FUN RUN!!!The Fun Run is for a really good cause! We are all learning to be leaders with positive attitudes and learning how to be healthy!! Please log in tonight and get started on your PLEDGES!! www.apexfunrun.com Our Day Today!Writer's Workshop This week we are reviewing adjectives! We are trying to get more creative with our adjectives by going being describing things only by how they look. We are working to broaden our vocabularies! Today we played a fun game of "Roll An Adjective" with a partner! Inquiry Time: Where We Are in Place and Time We are making our way through our new Unit about Historical Figures. Last week the learners worked in small groups to create posters about some well-known people from the past. We gave presentations and all practiced taking notes as we listened. Here are some pictures of the people we covered. Today, we began studying a Timeline. We talked about what a timeline is and why it is important. We even practiced our math skills to figure out how many years were being represented on our timeline if it went from 1700 - 2000. So far we have placed the birth-dates and death-dates of these historical figures on our Timeline; the rest of the week will be spent by studying a little bit more and putting their actions and discoveries on as well. Math This week we are reviewing time. We have been playing some fun time games like "I Have, Who Has" and "Minute Master." Today we went on a Time Expert Scavenger Hunt. Each person had their own watch with a time on it that they were the expert of. We went around the room asking and recording who the different time experts were and what activity they enjoyed doing at their time! What a fun a way to get up and moving around!! Reader's Theater Videos! Our Day Today! We get to be the teachers!! Today and tomorrow we are putting together presentations to teach each other about 8 different historical figures. We are working on our posters and will be presenting tomorrow! PLANTING with 4C BuddiesSome other things that we are up to...ELAR We have been coming up with inferences for poetry this week. Last night, Blake decided to write us a poem to use for this process this morning! She had lost a tooth and came up with a great poem to help the class make an inference. R-Time: Principled We enjoyed our activity for R-Time today! We practiced how to be Principled by always telling the truth and playing fair with others, and also by respecting one another. We did two neat activities, which oddly enough were both called 4-Corners! Mi Corazón: Fun in Spanish! Our Day TodayWriter's Workshop We took our Circle Maps and formed some Stop Light Writings today, for our Valentine Letters! We are looking forward to drafting and editing tomorrow! ELAR We are practicing how to make inferences with Poetry! Today we read a poem about a balloon and had to guess that the poem was about a balloon! We will be working more with harder poems as the week goes on! Inquiry Time To get the ball rolling on the new Unit, we became acquainted with some of the historical figures from the past. We looked at pictures of Sam Houston, George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Alexander Graham Bell, and then worked together to create Circle Maps about what we already know about these people. It was fun to know things about the two we recognized and very interesting to learn about new people! Math We are really getting this Time thing! Today we practiced telling time to the hour using an analog clock and a digital clock! We also had fun playing a Time Game with a partner! Valentine's Day Reader's Theater!A couple of the reading groups will be putting on a Reader's Theater for Valentine's Day this Friday! Tune into the blog for a video! Superhero of the Week: Varshini!Varshini's favorite Superhero is herself and she is a Superhero because she helps people! When she grows up, she wants to be an artist, which is why her favorite school subject is Art. She is proud of her self because she makes good friends and is happiest when she gets to be with her friends! THANK YOU, VARSHINI!! Our Day Today!Next Unit's HOOK We are starting our next Inquiry Unit this week, which is all about Where We Are in Place and Time. We will do an inquiry into historical figures, their actions and discoveries, and how those discoveries affect us today. We started this morning with an hour without electricity!! Here is what our classroom looked like: Later in the day we had a reflection of what it was like to work at school without electricity! We filled out our board and came up with some great "I Wonder..." questions! Writer's Workshop We are going to be working on some fun letters to our Valentines this week! In order to stick with out Expository Writing Process, we created some Circle Maps to choose who to write to and why we love that person! ELAR We are starting a new unit on Making Inferences. This is going to be very important when we start our next Inquiry Unit, called How We Express Ourselves. Today we made inferences about what we thought was inside a "Mystery Box" when we used our senses to get clues, and then written clues about what was inside the box! Math It's TIME to tell TIME!! We have officially started our Unit on Time. Today we learned all about the different parts of the Analog Clock and how to read time on the hour! Everyone picked up on this really fast and did a fantastic job! |
