Our Day Today!Writer's Workshop We have been working on editing our Expository Writing today! This time, we split up into partners and worked together to edit our own writing! It was really fun to work with each other to find the mistakes made in writing and then making our own corrections! ELAR We solved the Mystery at the Club Sandwich!! It was Maggie Trouble who stole the marbles from Lola's dressing room! She stole them so that she could have good luck and sing on her own! Solving the mystery together has been very fun and exciting this week! SNOW DAY!!!!SNOW DAY!! We were given permission to go outside to enjoy the snow for 5 minutes today! They barely lasted 2 of those 5 minutes!! It was so neat to get to experience that together. Half Birthdays! We have a week full of Half Birthdays this week! Mine, Isabella's, and Varshini's birthdays all happen the first week of August, which means that the first week of February is our Half Birthday Week!
Our Day Today!Writer's Workshop and ELAR Today we continued with our expository writing over our favorite books to read. We went from Circle Maps to Stop Light Writing. Tomorrow we will be moving our writing process further, into the draft phase. In ELAR we are still working to be detectives to solve the mystery of Club Sandwich. We gathered more clues and made new suspects today, which led to being able to make a prediction about what could have happened to Lola's marbles. Social Studies: US Symbols This week we are covering the important symbols of the United States of America. Today we learned about the American Flag, the Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem, the Liberty Bell, and the Statue of Liberty. We did our own illustrations of what each one looks like, and then played some fun games together! Math We had more fun with measuring today! We used "baby steps" and "basketball player" steps to measure and compare the difference in lengths. We also measured with craft sticks! We are practicing how to take measurements using different units and then recording our data to use for comparisons later. Superhero of the Week: Blake!!Blake's favorite superhero is HERSELF! She is a superhero because she helps people. She is proud of herself because she makes a good friend and she is happiest when she is playing with her friends! Blake wants to be a Dolphin Trainer when she grows up, which is why the book, Can You Tell a Dolphin from a Porpoise? is her favorite! THANKS BLAKE!! We love Ms. Kirkley!!!This week is Counselor Appreciation Week and we are so happy to show our appreciation for Ms. Kirkley! She is an amazing counselor for our school, and 1C really does appreciate all that she does! We made her this card today!
Our Day Today!Writer's Workshop We have started another Expository Writing Process, this time over the types of books that we enjoy reading! Today the learners did some brainstorming and created a Possibility Map of the different types of books they enjoy reading. We will choose 3 of these topics to write about as the week goes on. ELAR We are becoming detectives this week as we work through The Mystery at the Club Sandwich. We are helping Nick Trunk, the detective, work to solve the mystery of Lola's missing marbles. We are putting on our thinking caps and solving the problem by using our best reading comprehension skills to document notes such as: clues, suspects, predictions, and plans of action. Math We will be continuing our Measuring Unit this week, by measuring different distances with non-standard units. Today we measured lengths of tape using "kids' feet!" Then we compared the lengths of the two pieces of tape to discover which was longer and which was shorter, by using the data collected when measuring. |
