International Night: The NetherlandsInternational Night is coming up next week. This is the night when all of Pinkerton comes together to share stories, traditions, and foods from our different cultures from across the world! This is one of my favorite nights of the school year. This year, our class learned all about and will be representing Holland! We enjoyed a great presentation from Noah's mom and grandmother!! We loved every second of it! We learned about the dikes that protect Holland, we learned about traditional foods, looked at tulips and made tulips crafts of our own, and read a really neat story! We also learned some different Dutch phrases and animal sounds! Just for fun, I have added the Dutch Animal video to the blog!Fun Things Going On!A Glimpse of the First Grade PerformanceFun Visitors Today!Mystery Reader: Faye Graf Dad of the Day: Mohit Jalori
What We Are Up ToReading We took some time today, to remember what we used to be like. The history of a 7-year-old, may not be much, but remembering all of the milestones we have reached over the year was a fun experience! We made a circle map of all the things that we did when we were little, that we not longer do today. Then we compared what we said to the book, When I Was Little by Jamie Lee Curtis. Personal History Presentations We have officially started our projects! This class of full of risk-takers that love to try new things. Every one of them chose to learn how to use Power Point for their presentations! We went to the computer lab today to get started! Math: Money This week, we are learning to count money by counting pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. We have new Math Games in our Stations to help us master this skill. We also played a fun game of "I Have, Who Has.." The LessonsThe StationsWorking at StationsFun in the Garden! We spent some time gardening today! We planted potatoes and spinach! We will take care of, harvest, and sell all of our veggies in the garden during our last unit, How We Organize Ourselves. Our Day Today!Personal History Presentations We have been so fortunate to have such great speakers volunteer to tell us about their family history! I would like to shout out an extra special thank you to Ania's Dad and Satvik's Dad! We really enjoyed hearing these presentations. We have made some incredible connections to these parents and our Connection Door is coming along so well! Our Family Histories We took some time to really think about our own family histories and talk about what makes our families so unique. We worked to write down some of the unique traits about our own family like, traditions and celebrations, heirlooms, foods that we eat, and much more. We are going to share some of these traits with each other tomorrow! Writer's Workshop We are still working with adjectives and had a great time playing a game of "Write the Room." We chose an adjective to describe each picture and then shared to show how creative we can be! Math We are starting a Module on Money today! To start it off, we read the book Alexander, Who Used to be Rich Last Sunday. While we read, we tried to figure out how much money Alexander had left as he was spending! We had a fun discussion after reading the book about why it is important to learn about money and why we should learn to save money. We shared different ways that we can earn money and then chose something that we wanted to save our own money for. Our Day Today!Math We are wrapping up Module 8 of GO Math! We have learned to read, solve, and even write multi-step story problems! Writer's Workshop We will be starting our Personal History Projects soon, but before we can do that, we need to brush up on our adjective skills! We reviewed adjectives today by reading the book Many Luscious Lolly Lops and creating an anchor chart of some other adjectives that we know. Reading What makes your family unique? Today we started a discussion about families and what the differences are that make them special. We looked at the book, The Keeping Quilt, and talked about family heirlooms. We even got to look at a very special quilt from Mrs. Irland. We will use this information in our Personal History Projects. Personal History Presentations Today! |
