Happy 7th Birthday to Anushka! What a good day in 1C today! We enjoyed having a regular schedule again. We started out the day with Writer's Workshop where we went through all of our writing folders and did some editing. We practiced stretching out our words in order to spell them correctly. It was a lot of fun to go back and look at every thing we have written over the last week. We also practiced more of our writing skills during Daily 5 today! I have some really amazing kids in this class. It is so much fun to see them working hard during Daily 5.
In our IB Unit, Sharing the Planet, we have been discussing the different habitats and the types of animals that live in these places. It is neat to see how their minds are really working to think of all the animals they can. I cannot wait to see what happens when they get to do more independent thinking tomorrow! We had another fun Wednesday of Spanish today. I must say, their Spanish teacher is GOOD! Everything is always so interesting and she really makes learning fun! Here are some reminders for the rest of the week: TOMORROW:
Today was a busy day!! This morning we had our Extended Planning time for First Grade, which just means that we have specials at a different time during the day and it lasts a little bit longer. We do this so that the teachers can have a longer planning time to insure that we plan our IB Units thoroughly and correctly.
Right after our Specials we went straight into the Computer Lab to practice logging in! We all did a great job, but could use some practice navigating around on a computer. Tonight, I would like for the class to spend a little time getting onto my website at home. Here are the directions they need to follow:
Due to this being on the list of things to do tonight, I am going to go ahead and keep book bags here! They will be coming home again tomorrow. Let's make sure that we are only reading one of the books in the bag per night, so that we do not need to change out books every day. For extra practice, you may choose any books from home and add them to the log! Please make sure these book bags come back to school every morning. I hope that every one has a great evening and have fun practicing on the computer!!! BOOK BAGS!Today the book bags come home for the very first time!! Every night our learners need to be reading at least one book. The best way to do this is by having your children read aloud to you. This way you can see how well they are reading at home! I would also like for you to ask your children to tell you about the book they read to you after they read, to check their comprehension of the book. If you would like to send a note back in their reading folders for me to read, please do! Once your child has finished their reading, please document the book they read in the reading log by filling in the date, title of the book, and your signature! If you have any questions, please email me! Our Day Today!Today was a big day for us in 1C! This was the first day of our very first IB Unit called Sharing the Planet. We will be learning all about animals and how they interact with their environments. Click here to see the Central Idea and Lines of Inquiry! We are gearing up for the Book Fair next week, so please be watching for the Scholastic Order Forms to be coming home today! There is also a form in the packet that needs to be signed and sent back to school tomorrow. Please make sure you find it in the STAR Daily Folder this evening. There is a photo to the left that shows what you should be looking for! And don't forget to initial those calendars! Reminders:
The second week of school was great! We are finally getting into a set routine and getting to know one another really well! The following are some photos of what we did in the classroom today and a video of how AWESOME we are at I-PICK!! (Click the blue button for the video) Make sure to check the STAR Daily folders for calendars and some letters that went home! Good afternoon! Today was a good day! We had our first Library visit and got to check out books! Each learner will be bringing home a library book this evening, so take this opportunity to start practicing how to read at home! Next week we will be starting those reading logs! We have all been working hard to extend our read to self times and the majority have made it a full 10 minutes, so that would be a good starting place when reading at home in the evenings. We even tried reading in the hallway today, and I must say, it was pretty impressive to see how quietly they were all reading!
We reviewed safety during Science Time today. We all got to review how to be safe at home, school, and when using technology! The learners all signed contracts today that keep them responsible for using technology at school safely and correctly and responsible for practicing safe science in the classroom! Don't forget to keep checking calendars in the STAR Daily Folders and checking for any forms that need to be returned to school in the "Right Back to School" pocket. I hope everyone has a great evening!! Keep in mind these dates for fun activities that are coming up as well:
There is also a fun event at Whataburger coming up in October: Good Morning Coppell Elementary and Middle Schools- My name is Sheila Willis I am a Field Marketing Coordinator for Whataburger Restaurants. If you should have any questions, please let me know. Thank you! Sheila Willis Whataburger Restaurants Field Marketing Coordinator [email protected] Today was a busy day! Everyone has been so excited about starting out Behavior Clip Chart; it is so fun to see how hard everyone is working to move up! We even had our first student make it all the way up to Outstanding for displaying responsibility in the hallway and putting on a good example! Congratulations Blake!
Today consisted of practicing Daily 5, I-PICK, and learning about CAFE (Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency, and Expanding Vocabulary) while reading. We will continue to practice these for the remainder of the week. During Inquiry Time we have been talking about who a scientist is: YOU! We made our very own scientist versions of ourselves today that say, "I am a scientist because..." The steps we take in learning how to be scientists will lead us into our IB Unit that begins next week! I would like to take a moment and say how incredibly proud I am of this class! The beginning of the school year is a tough time with all of the different Assessments we have to do! They have been such troopers and have done an excellent job!! They all participated in DRA so well, the spelling assessments went really well yesterday, and our writing samples were great today! They have all been incredibly patient and hard working through all of it, and I really appreciate it! Tomorrow we will work on some High Frequency Words! Announcements:
I hope that everyone had a wonderful long weekend! We were all very excited to be back together today in 1C! It was really nice to start getting into a normal routine today. We began our official Clip Chart moving today, and I am happy to say that it went really well! Please look in your learner's take home folder for a new calendar to see how they did today! Don't forget to initial the box!!! Today we started the Daily 5 with some fun activities to learn how to read our books in the best way possible! I am attaching a video to this post so that everyone can see how much fun we really had! Please click the link in order to view the video on YouTube! I gave the class a choice to accept the challenge of performing the chant on their own, and these are the students that chose to join in! If you do not see yours in the video, I have assured them all that their parents will ask to see them do it, so please ask away and lets practice I-PICK at home! We will continue to work on the chant as the week goes on! With Daily 5, we are beginning the first steps of learning how to perform "Read to Self," for about 5-10 minutes total. Pretty soon I will be sending home book bags with a reading log to keep track of reading at home as well, so please watch for it!! Here are a couple of announcements that we need to keep in mind:
