Backwards Counting We have been practicing how to count backwards from 100 lately! Each day, I am inviting learners to take the challenge of counting backwards from 100 all the way to 0! We look forward to more Super Stars becoming successful in the near future!! What we are up to this week:Writer's Workshop This week our focus has moved specifically to Adjectives!! We have some research projects taking off in our IB Unit and we need to learn how to describe these incredible animals that we are researching! Today we practiced using adjectives to describe different things around the classroom and really dug deep to find out what an adjective really is. Reading Another way that we are tying into the IB Unit is by discovering how to correctly use Non-Fiction Books for researching our animals. We went over all of the different parts of a Non-Fiction book and discussed how each section will be of use to our research. After checking it all out together, we took some time to flip through Non-Fiction books to see if we could find all of the parts! IB Unit: Sharing the Planet Our first IB Unit is coming to a close in the next few weeks. This week is the beginning of our Animal Research Projects. We will work together in groups to research and present a chosen animal! Ask your learner what animal they will be researching! We will use many different resources for our research, such as pebblego.com, symbaloo.com, and Non-Fiction books from the Pinkerton Library! Here is a list of the animals we get to learn about:
We are all really excited to get this research started! Super Hero of the week: KAILAS!!Kailas is a Superhero because he wears a cape. He loves to read Magic Treehouse and loves Social Studies. Penny Penny, penny easy spent. Copper brown and worth 1 cent!! Nickel Nickel, nickel thick and fat. You're worth 5, I know that!! We have also started to really work on place value and counting forward and backwards to 120! Each day we are counting bears together in a circle and timing how fast we can count! Today our time was 3 minutes and 19 seconds!! GO 1C! Then we rooted each other on as a few brave friends took on the challenge to count backwards from 100!! Great job volunteering Krishiv, Blake, Amatullah and Austin! FANTASTIC job to the 3 super stars that made it: Saanvi, Maya, and Isabella!! He loves Batman and thinks he is just like batman because his super power is being strong! Our Agenda this week:Writer's Workshop This week in Writer's Workshop, we are focusing on the main idea of a story as well as how to put together a beginning, middle, and end. We have all started our own stories by drawing a picture from a grab bag. We have created a bubble map out of our pictures and have added many details with wonderful descriptive words. We then gave our story a title and began writing by using our pictures and the details written. Later this week, we will add to our stories and form them to have a beginning, middle and end! We are all really enjoying this great practice we are getting to better our writing skills! IB: Sharing the Planet We are starting the process of wrapping up this fun first IB Unit by completing the process with Animal Classification! We are learning the similarities and differences between animals in order to group them together. Today we learned about the different groups: mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians, fish, and invertebrates! Next week we begin the process of researching our own animals. This will tie everything we have learned so far together. We will choose an animal and show the habitat it lives in, its adaptations, the food chain in the habitat that directly involves our animal, and give the correct classification! There will be many fun ways to for us to present our projects at the end of the unit, so stay tuned!! Reminders:
