Mia Found a Friend!Our Day Today!ELAR We wrote our letters to Santa today and they were taken to the North Pole by a real elf! We put 3 choices on our lists and then explained to Santa why we deserved to have our presents. Christmas Around the World: England Today we traveled to England where they say "Happy Christmas" and receive gifts from Father Christmas. The people listen to A Christmas Carol and sing carols like "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing!" They eat Figgy Pudding, Plum Pudding, Mice Pie and Christmas Cake. At dinner the children pop their Christmas Crackers! Spanish Fun. Feliz de Fiestas!Superhero of the Week: Kristopher!Kristopher loves Math and Social Studies. He plans to be a Scientist when he grows up. His favorite book is The Magic Treehouse. He is happiest when he gets to play on his iPad. Kristopher's favorite superhero is Superman. Kris is a superhero because he is so smart! Thank you Kristopher!! Mia loves snowflakes!Our Day Today!ELAR Today we read the story Imogene's Antlers. We had a lot of fun talking about what we would do if we woke up with antlers of our own! We did a neat activity with this book by tracing an antler on to paper and then using our imaginations to turn it into something different. There were so many neat creations like trees, flowers, a bush, a cactus, a turkey, and a cat! Christmas Around the World: France Today we got on our airplane and traveled to France. Joyeux Noel! It has been a lot of fun learning about all of the different Christmas Traditions around the world! R-Time We learned how to show others that we appreciate them today. We read the book, A Wish to Be a Christmas Tree. We took what we learned from the story and related it to ourselves by choosing a special someone in our lives to say "Thank You" to. Math We had a short Mini Assessment today using our white boards. We practiced skip counting by 2's, 5's and 10's by writing the starting number and stopping at a given ending number. This is a great activity to be practicing at home! Our Day Today!Here is a little slide show of our activities today!! Special Guest: Mrs. Bishop #1Today, my Mother-In-Law came to visit our classroom to start our Christmas Around the World Unit. We explored Christmas in the USA by coloring Christmas Trees, making Snow Flakes, and making Magic Reindeer Food while listening to Christmas Carols! Mrs. Bishop #1 (What the class decided to call her), read The Night Before Christmas and involved the class for an Interactive Story Experience. It was an incredible experience to have a family member come into my classroom, especially one that was a teacher for 32 years! Fun in Math Stations Today!Hospital Donations!1C has earned a total of $68!! We will enjoy our "Shoes Off Day" tomorrow and then next week we will enjoy some extra recess time! Thank you to everyone that has donated!! Keep the donations coming!! We made $11 more dollars today!Our Day Today!Writer's Workshop Today we worked on drafting our "Santa's Stuck" stories. We worked with a partner to come up with out 5 Finger Plan for writing the story. I cannot wait to see the end result of some of these stories. These kids are creative with how they plan to get Santa unstuck from the chimney! ELAR Yesterday we talked about Reindeer. Today we talked about Rudolph. We read the story Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and then listed the character traits that Rudolph has! Social Studies We practiced reading maps and identifying different places on the globe today! We were even challenged to create our own maps when given different map symbols! Math This week we have been working on Skip Counting by 2's, 5's. and 10's. Today put our heads together to find the number of wheels on so many cars and then discovering how many hands and fingers there were in our groups! We start our Math Stations for this week and next week tomorrow! We read the book, Santa's Stuck and then discussed with one another exactly how we would help him out. We filled out a graphic organizer to show the steps that we would take. Later this week we will be drafting a "How To" paper. Social Studies We are going to be travelling the globe to see how Christmas is celebrated all over the world! We are beginning this unit with an exploration of Maps and figuring out where we are in the world. We had a blast exploring Google Earth today! Happy Birthday Krishiv and Arisha!Arisha had her birthday last Friday and Krishiv had his birthday on Saturday! Today we celebrated Krishiv's with cupcakes, and Thursday we will be celebrating Arisha's! Superhero of the Week: IsabellaIsabella's favorite Superhero is Spidergirl. She loves to read Magic Bunny, Magic Puppy, and Jamberry. Her favorite school subject is math and she is really good at it! Isabella wants to be a Scientist when she grows up. She is happiest when it is Christmas, a birthday, or a when having a play date. She is a superhero because she helps her Mom and Dad cook! Thank you Isabella!! It is really important that we get the learners interested in documenting their own experiences, outside the classroom! 1C is doing great with Donations!Our Day Today!ELAR We practiced our reading comprehension today by listening to a story and then remembering the things about it, like character traits and problem and solution. We read Tacky the Penguin and wrote down all the traits of Tacky. We also wrote how Tacky tricked the hunters! Science We learned about the wind today! We had a great time making wind socks and cannot wait to test them out when we get home! it was a little too chilly and rainy to get to try them at school today. I have offered an award for anyone that decides to try it this weekend and posts a picture to their blog! Math We are continuing with our 100's chart practice and counting practice. We had some challenges today when we had to fill in the remainder of a piece of the chart when given only a couple numbers to start with! Shriya's Birthday Celebration |
