Our Day Today!Shelter Drill We had our monthly Disaster Drill today to practice how to take shelter during dangerous weather. The learners did a fantastic job!! Writer's Workshop We took the next step of the writing process with our "How To's" and wrote a first draft. We copied the sentences from our flip book and then added a second detailed sentence to it that would better describe the process of snow man building. How would you make the Grinch Grin? Science: Temperature Investigation We had a great time exploring thermometers and temperature today! The learners discovered the changes that a thermometer undergoes when put into warm water and cold water. We discussed the different types of things that are hot and cold and accurately recorded the data on a thermometer. Math Stations R-Time For out R-Time this week, we discussed interrupting. It can be frustrating when someone is interrupting a conversation and we wanted to practice how to deal with such things, as well as how to keep ourselves from interrupting others. We listened to the book, Interrupting Chicken. We then answered a few questions on how the Little Red Chicken could have done things differently. We then had a class discussion of how we would do things differently when given different scenarios that may cause us to want to interrupt. In other news...Aryan also cashed in tickets for lunch with the teacher this week! He invited his friends Braden and JJ to join him! We had a lot of fun watching cartoons and using smelly markers to draw!
Our Day TodayWriter's Workshop We are practicing how to write a "How To" in sequence, using our transitional words. We started our writing by drawing the process of how to build a snow man and then filling in the initial sentences using a flip book. Science: Moon Phases and Weather We have started a small unit on the Phases of the Moon and the weather. Each day for the next 3 weeks, we will be tracking the different moon phases and collecting data on the weather each day! Click on this website to see the current phase of the moon, plus many other interesting things! Moon Phases Math This week in math we are working on our counting skills. We are really getting used to using the 100s Chart and learning to count to 120. We are splitting up into out Math Stations starting tomorrow. Here is a link to the "Student Websites" page on the website. At the bottom are some of the websites we will be using for Math on the Computer. Counting Games We also practiced patterning by looking at an image for 3 seconds and then recreating that image using unifex cubes.
