We had a wonderful second day of school today! We started our day with a journal entry about what we did this summer! What does a first grader need to be successful? We talked about everything we need to bring in our backpacks to help us have the best day that we possibly can! We made a circle map of our ideas. Then we made our own little backpacks and listed things we wanted to have in them! To go along with our backpack activity, we read a great book called Brand New Pencils, Brand New Books. This is a fun book about a opossum's first day of first grade! We really enjoyed discussing the book as we read together. We will begin our literacy stations soon! The one we will have every day is Read to Self. This station will show us how to read independently for longer periods of time. We discussed the different duties of Read to Self and then practiced reading for 5 minutes! We also discussed the rules of the reading center and how to use it properly! We learned about letter R of Pinkerton PRIDE today! The R stands for Remain Safe. We read the book Officer Buckle and Gloria to review some safety rules! After our book, we talked about what remaining safe at school looks like and what it does not look like, then we took a tour of the school to find the important places we should know about!
