We had an wonderful second day of school! We started our day off with a journal entry about what we want to learn in First Grade. What do first graders need to be successful? We read a great book called Brand New Pencils, Brand New Books to see what kinds of things should go in your backpacks to help you do great in first grade! After the book, we made a circle map of all our idea with both materials and knowledge! We used this to make a list and then made a cute backpack out of paper to put it in! For letter R of PRIDE stands for remaining safe. We reD this fun book and then toured important places in the school. Every week we will have an IB Attitude or Learner Profile to learn! This week we are learning about appreciation. For each word, we will start with a lexicon chart. We will also read books and make connections. Today was all about the letter I in PRIDE. We did a few lessons about it! First we read a Molly Lou Melon book about standing tall, even when others are not kind and don't include you. We used a sheet of paper to show how even when someone says they're sorry for not including you, it still wrinkles your feelings. We also worked in small groups to draw a picture together about what including others can look like. There were some great pictures of friends inviting others to their houses, playing games together, and inviting new friends to play!
