We have had another wonderful day! In our journals, we wrote about what we want to learn this year, in first grade. We want to learn all kinds of things!! We wrote about turtles, science, math, Pokemon, Ninja Turtles, and tons more!! We read the story, Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon, and talked about how to treat our friends nicely and with respect. In this story, Molly Lou Melon gets teased by another child, but still stands up for herself. To model how much it can affect someone to get teased, each time it happened to Molly, we would crumple up a sheet of paper. Then, every time she stood up for herself, we uncrumpled the paper. Very the end of the story, the paper was uncrumpled, but still really damaged. This shows that even when we can stand up for ourselves, or if those that hurt us say sorry, we are still a little hurt and damaged. After the story, we played a fun game called "Find A Friend!" We had to ask our friends about themselves and then sign each other's papers! We are starting to get to know the writing process. Today we discussed different ways that authors get their ideas for writing. Sometimes an author will write from a real life experience! We practiced using a real life experience to write by drawing a picture of our experience and labeling it. Today we talked about the I in Pinkerton PRIDE. The I stands for Include Others. We worked together in a group so show what that means.
