What an awesome first day of school! We had a wonderful day today learning about our new classroom and even experiencing The Solar Eclipse! Here are a few of the things we did today!
Throughout the week, we will learn all about Pinkerton PRIDE. Each letter of PRIDE stands for something different. Today we looked at letter P: Practice Responsibility.
We split up into groups to talk about what Practicing Reaponsibility looks like. Each group made a circle map together and then we added all of our ideas to a class circle map.
We added our first entry to our Daily Writing Journals today! They will get to look back on this entry at the end of the year and be amazed by how much they grow this year! We wrote "Today is the first day of school. My name is... This is what I look like." Then they each drew a picture of themselves today.
The first day of school can make anyone nervous! It's a petty big deal to kids and even teachers! We read a fun book to remind us of how the first day of school can give you the jitters!
After the story, we read a poem out loud together about jitter juice. Jitter juice is a magic juice that sends all those jittery feelings away! After the poem, we made our own recipes for jitter juice and then even drank some!
The first day of school is pretty amazing as it is, but to have the first day of school fall on the same day as a Solar Eclipse?? AWESOME! We really enjoyed looking at the eclipse through our handmade pinhole cameras. We were also lucky to enough to have a sweet friend in our class share her Eclipse glasses so that those of us that went outside could get a good look!!
