We have started our new and final unit for the school year! This unit focuses on needs and wants and how they influence the exchange of goods and services. We will be focused on these things and will host a First Grade Farmer's Market at the end of the unit! We will review the life cycle of plants, grow, harvest, and prepare our veggies to sell at the market. Each learner will experience what it is like to be a producer and will work the market to sell our goods! We will also experience some personal finance situations and learn about deposits and withdrawals! Many fun things are in store for the end of the school year!! Beacuse we had to cancel our trip to the Dallas Farmer's Market, we had to find a couple other ways to experience a farmer's market! We watched a great video about the Irvine Market in California! This Saturday we will visit the Coppell Farmer's Market!! Today was all about the difference between our needs and our wants. We watched a Brain Pop Jr video and then created a T-Chart to show our needs and wants. We read a great book called Those Shoes to help us understand the relationship between the two, from a kid's perspective. After reading this book, we did a writing activity. We answered this question,"Should kids get everything they want? Why or why not?"
