Our Day Today!
Today, we compared fiction and non-fiction books using a Double Bubble map in order to review the different parts of a non-fiction book. We read a segment from the book, Many Kinds of Matter to learn a little more about Solids.
We are still working to integrate math into our unit, and will start next week! For the remainder of this week, we will be working on our Skip Counting. Today we covered how to skip count by 5's. We are all working really hard to learn the counting patterns and then apply these patterns to word problems. An example of this type of word problem is this:
There are five arms on each starfish. How many arms are on 22 starfish?
The challenge we are faced with in these problems is the process. We are learning that first we need to gather the facts of the sentences. Then we need to draw a picture to use as a reference. once we have a picture drawn, in this case of 22 starfish, we can count by fives to get the right answer!
