Our IB Word of the week this week is empathy. Empathy means thinking about other people's feelings and putting yourself in their shoes. We read the book Bear Feels Sick and saw how bears friends took care of him when he was sick. Then the friends get sick and Bear shows empathy by taking care of them. We also added empathy to our word web! Math: Making Ten with Ten FramesWe are starting to work on place value. We practiced making groups of ten with ten frames and then practiced drawing tens and ones and labeling their places in two digit numbers! We also practiced subitizing with ten frames! This week is all about how matter can change. You can change the properties of solids by a changing their shapes or texture. Matter can also change through phases by heating and cooling. We watched a neat video about the ways that matter can change and then made a circle map of things we observed as changing. Today we observed the way that water can change through all states of matter with heat. We heated solid water (ice) and melted it into a liquid. We also kept heating the water to observe how the liquid can change into a gas when the water is heated enough to boil. The whole time we observed this happening, we watched as the temperature changed with a wireless thermometer. We had our first guidance lesson with Ms. Kirkley!! It was such a fun activity!
