We have been working hard on this writing piece and it has been so much fun! Today we took our stop light writing and wrote our final copies! Tomorrow we will add the illustrations of us with our new animal adaptations! Similar animals have adaptations that may look the same, but they are used in different ways. We read a fun book about these similar adaptations and how they are used. We had some great conversations about claws and beaks. This led into our investigation of different bird beaks. We simulated how bird use their beaks differently to eat different foods! We used different tools with different foods to see which ones worked better. We used our new knowledge from the investigation to explore actual bird beaks in a really neat book that shows all about birds and their different beaks. We added another station to our literacy stations today! We practiced Read to Someone and really enjoyed reading with a partner! We are working so hard to learn and understand place value by taking numbers apart up to 120. We are learning the ones, tens, and hundreds places and how to write them out. We are also showing these numbers with Base 10 Blocks! Every Math lesson starts with a journal. This week our journals are all about place value and different ways of counting. We are working on our Go Math lessons together to practice making numbers with Base 10 Blocks, write their place value, show the number, and write the value of the digits in expanded form! What a tough concept!! Today we practiced making different numbers with our blocks and writing these different things with dry erase boards and markers. We also learned that numbers can be shown in different ways, like 23 can be shown with 2 tens and 3 ones or it can be shown as 1 ten and 13 ones! Ms. Kirkley gave a great lesson today! We listened to her read The Recess Queen and talked about having confidence! Then we played a fun game of Pickle Bingo to learn about our feelings!!
