Our Day Today!
This morning, we spent most of our time taking the MAP Math test and they all did GREAT!! These learners have such patience! We will be taking the MAP Reading Test tomorrow!
Writer's Workshop
Today we read the book, A Chair For My Mother. There is a part of the story where the little girl describes the events of a fire that took their previous home and caused her family to lose all of their furniture. This specific part of the story is described by the little girl using most of her 5 senses. Today for writing we each thought about a small moment in our own lives that could be described this same way! We used a Bubble Map to plan out our writing by describing our experience with our 5 senses.
Today during Sharing the Planet we talked about the different bodies that animals have in order to survive in their habitats. For example, arctic animals need blubber under their skin to protect them from the cold air and water. Animals in other habitats have different needs for their environments as well. We explored what it would be like to be a penguin and have blubber covering our bodies by doing a "Blubber Glove" experiment. First we dipped our hands in ice water and then dipped our hand again covered in "blubber."
