First Grade Farmer's Market Preparations!100 Tickets Reward! DAIRY QUEEN!!One of the prizes for ticket cashing in was a trip to Dairy Queen with the teacher! Blake had over 200 tickets, so she paid 200 tickets for her and a friend, Esli, to go to Dairy Queen with me today! We had a blast! What's it like in First Grade??Today, one of the Kindergarten classes came to visit our First Grade classroom today! We had so much fun showing them around and telling them all about what to expect when they are in First Grade next year! Our Last Library Visit for the Year!Our Day TodayWriter's Workshop We really had a great time reading our letters to the Kindergartners today. Showing them around the classroom was a blast too! We also continued working on our letters to our Future Second Grade Teachers and hope to be sending them to Second Grade next week! How We Organize Ourselves We spent a good amount of time creating Posters for the First Grade Farmer's Market to hang all around the school. We had a mini-lesson in advertising and reviewed how to persuade others to come to our business! After having the different Goods and Services Speakers come in, we needed to make sure we learned some good information from their presentations! We had a little assessment over the Speakers and whether they were a good/service and why. Math We had a little fun with probability today by figuring out how likely and unlikely it would be to draw certain colors of M&Ms out our own baggies! Our Day Today!Writer's Workshop We are so excited about going into Second Grade next year! We started drafting letters to our Future Second Grade Teachers today! We will be including what we are excited about, what we want to learn, and what we are scared of in our letters. Math We are working with Probability in Math this week. We worked with a partner to decide whether different statements were certain, impossible, likely, or unlikely. How We Organize OurselvesGoods and Services Speakers We have learned all about different Goods and Services that are offered to people around Coppell. This week we had visitors from some of these places come in and tell us all about their jobs. We had Simmer come on Monday, then Crossfit Bolt and a Social Worker come yesterday, and today the Coppell Fire Department and Chiropractors. We have learned a lot! Preparing for the First Grade Farmer's Market We are starting to get our advertising ready for the Farmer's Market! Start looking around the school for posters and flyers! In the Garden: I can See & I Can Hear Today we joined Mrs. Pickrell in the Pinkerton Patch to tend to our vegetables. We are getting close to harvesting, so we need to pull the weeds out! We had a new peaceful experience together as we observed in the garden by silently looking and listening, as we documented our observations in our journals. We also silently worked to pull weeds out of each patch. Our Day Today!Writer's Workshop This week we are preparing to move on from First Grade! We will start the week by writing a letter to a Kindergartner to prepare them for First Grade next year. We will list our favorite things about first grade and tell them what we learned. Later this week, we will be writing a letter to our Future Second Grade Teachers about what we want to know about Second Grade! How We Organize Ourselves We will be combining ELAR and Inquiry Time this week into our Unit, How We Organize Ourselves. For ELAR we will be working on creating fliers and posters for the upcoming First Grade Farmer's Market. Today we explored the produce sections of different Market Ads. We will be having many different Speakers coming this week to discuss Goods and Services! Today we met Mr. Eric, one of the owners of Simmer in Coppell! We learned all about the goods the restaurant provided as well as the services they provide! Everyone was so excited to receive a Free Kids Meal Coupon to take home! Our Day TodayWriter's Workshop How do you blow a bubble? Today we explored every single step that it takes to blow a bubble with Super Bubble Gum! We had so much fun chewing gum and documenting every step that we need to take whenever blowing a bubble. We will be doing a fun craft to complete this "How To" writing tomorrow! How We Organize Ourselves Today we explored and observed the different characteristics of soil and rocks. We looked at clay, sand, loam, pea gravel, river rocks and other rocks. We also had some free time to explore all of these items together in a large bucket. We documented our findings by writing the different characteristics such as texture, color, size, and shape. |
