All About MATH!
We introduced Story Problems today! I tell the learners a story and they sequence the story by repeating back to me what happened in the story. Today our problem was:
"I went to the store to buy some bananas. I found the bananas in the fruit section. I picked up a bunch of bananas. I counted the bananas and found out there were 4 in the bunch. I decided that I wanted more than that, so I picked up 2 more bananas."
Their job was to tell me what happened before I even asked how many bananas I had all together. This helps them to process the information instead of just working out a math problem for an immediate answer! We then used out manipulatives to model the math problem to find out how many bananas that I bought from the store!
I will be adding a Story Problem to our daily math routine, so feel free to take any opportunities at home to make anything a Story Problem!!
Guided Reading
We have opened up all the Stations for Daily 5, so feel free to ask the learners to explain exactly what they are working on when visiting the stations! They would make a great habits to practice at home as well!
