We had another fun day today! We started out the day with a very special journal entry. Every Thursday, our journal prompt will be "I am thankful for..." I am challenging them to write something different every Thursday of the school year, so that they can see just how much they are loved and have to be grateful for in their lives! Each and every one of us is special and the things that make us special are even MORE special! We read a funny book called The Uglified Ducky that taught us that we are special no matter what! We learned a very fun song about how we are special and what makes us that way. Then we made "I am special" circle maps with our faces in the middle of them! We read the book Chrysanthemum and talked about how long her name is! 13 letters! We decided to see how many letter each of our names are and then we added them to a graph. It turns out that 8 people have a name with 5 letters in our class! We had a great time graphing our names, even if Mrs. Bishop did not do a good job of measuring the graph with the papers! We drew lines to show how many were in each number correctly. The D in PRIDE stands for displaying respect. We watched a read aloud of the book The Recess Queen to give us some ideas for what displaying respect looks like. This lesson is leading us into writing our classroom rules, or our Essential Agreements, tomorrow.
