Our Day Today!
Today we started the writing process by practicing how an author brainstorms before they begin writing. The topic we chose today was to write about something that we love doing! The learners watched as I modeled how to think of an idea and picture it in my mind. Then I drew my picture (taking my dog to the dog park) on paper and talked about what I was drawing as I drew it. After finishing the drawing, I labeled it. The learners practiced taking these steps on their own as they thought of a favorite experience and drew it. We will be adding more to our pictures tomorrow, and then start actually writing about them on Friday!
We added the I to Pinkerton Pride today, which stands for "Include Others." We read the book, Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon and talked about everything that happened in the story that did not include others. Then, we made a T-Chart together and discussed what this looks like and what this does not look like.
Today, we read the book, The Night Before First Grade. We worked together to create a circle map and each tell some of the things we did the night before we started First Grade this year. Then we reflected on one idea in our journals.
