We had a great day today! Our day started with a Chinese New Year celebration! Second Grade put on a great parade! We had a blast exploring the adaptation of blubber for animals in the arctic! We read a very good book about penguins. After our book, we talked about how blubber helps the animals in this type of habitat and we came to the conclusion that blubber is designed to keep these animals warm in the freezing temperatures. We did an investigation to see what having blubber feels in cold water! To start the investigation, we felt what it was like in ice water with our bare hands. We stuck our hands in the ice water and held it in there for about 15-20 seconds (not too long!!) to see how cold it really is! It was so hard and so cold! Then, we used a “blubber glove” to hold our hands in the water for longer the second time. It was so warm!
