How The World Works:We have been experimenting all week with mixing solids and liquids to create something new. Yesterday we mixed salt and cream to create butter by shaking. We used a small jar and marbles to churn the cream and salt to get it to change into a solid and become butter! Today we had an Ice Cream investigation. We used salt and ice to freeze a bag of liquids into a solid by shaking it. We mixed milk, vanilla, and sugar in one small bag and placed it in with the larger bag of ice. With a partner we shook out bags until our mixture was completely frozen. It was so neat to actually see the process of freezing happening in our own hands! All week, we have been working on Flow Maps to sequence the steps of our experiments. Tomorrow we will be creating a mini-presentation of our favorite investigation using 30 Hands. We did some planning on this presentation today, using this sheet as a guide. We are also getting very close to publishing our Matter Sensory Poems! We created a second draft today and worked with a partner to edit, so that our poem is ready for the final copy. I modeled the editing process for the class using my poem about water. These poems are coming out so well!
