We have had a fun week! We started learning about subtraction strategies, historical figures, and how to check the weather! We started our week with this fun video! We have been learning how to subtract by using the same tools we used for addition. Today we got our strategy sheet and applied these tools to subtraction problems. We started using all of the tools on one single problem. Then we used dice to roll subtraction problems. We learned that the bigger number should always come first when finding the difference. After each roll, we used a tool to solve. For writing this week, we are writing about being known for something. There are so many people from the past that have changed our way of life by either doing something, discovering something, or inventing something. We thought about what we would be known for if we were one of these people. We made a circle map and tree map to plan and then put our writing in a draft. This week is all about people of the last and how their actions have impacted our lives today. We will learn about seven different people. Each person will have an activity to learn about them, and then we are adding information about each to a chart and a timeline! Benjamin Franklin is the reason we have electricity! We learned some more interesting facts about him while experiencing what it would be like without his discovery. We did a fact walk and wrote facts while not using any electricity! George Washington was the first president of the United States. We learned all about him by working with a partner to hear facts about him on PebbleGo.com. Sam Houston was the first president of the Republic of Texas when Texas won its freedom from Mexico. He was also the one that helped Texas become a part of the United States. We enjoyed doing a few different smart board activities to learn about him.
